The weekend is one of the best times to tackle a home project you have been meaning to get around to. With two full days at your disposal, you can dedicate a little more time to something a bit more complicated than a one-day project. Below are five of our favorite easy home projects that take just a single weekend. Best of all, they are inexpensive and won’t break the bank!

1. Build a Headboard

A DIY headboard is a surefire way to add a dash of style, color, and texture to your bedroom. There are literally hundreds of different ways to make your own headboard (just Google “DIY headboard), ranging from methods that require zero cutting to methods that require some power tool know-how. Select the method you feel most comfortable with and get started. Your bedroom will be thankful you took the time! Here is a great example from HGTV.

2. Add New House Numbers

I’m always looking for easy ways to increase the curb appeal of my home. And I have found that one of the absolute easiest is to add new house numbers. Like the DIY headboard, there are many ways to go about replacing your ratty old house numbers with great looking new ones. My favorite way is to attach them to a nice block of wood. I also prefer house numbers that are raised as I feel this adds a greater dose of style. If you’re extra handy, you can even make your own numbers from scratch!

3. Make a DIY Dog Bed

Why should your four-legged best friend sleep on some bargain pet bed when you get to sleep in luxury? Spend your weekend designing a DIY dog bed to keep your dog comfortable and dreaming in style. There are a bunch of different ways to go about this project but my favorites are walked through on Our Nerd Home and Mox & Fodder.

4. Add Garage Storage

The garage is one area of the home that most of us don’t put too much thought into. Yet it is a great place to focus on for an easy home project that takes less than a weekend. Start by shopping for garage storage solutions. You are bound to come across a plethora of shelves, hooks, and hangers. The bulk of this project will be about buying the necessary storage products. But putting all of these projects together and installing them will take some time and test your DIY skills as well.

5. Upgrade Your Fence

A good-looking fence is an important part of your home’s overall curb appeal. That’s why it is an excellent idea to spend a weekend upgrading yours. Most people will be more than okay simply painting, staining, or refinishing their existing fence. Those with a fence in a deeper state of disrepair (or without a fence altogether) will find that installing/building a fence in a single weekend is a home project worth taking on.
